English as an Additional Language at Ivy Lane School
Ivy Lane School is a special needs school. Families of students attending our school speak a range of languages and we are experienced in supporting students and families with EAL needs.
All students need to feel safe, accepted and valued in order to learn. For students who are learning English as an additional language, this includes recognising and valuing their home language and background. As a school, we are aware that bilingualism is a strength and that EAL students have a valuable contribution to make. We take a whole school approach, including ethos, curriculum, and education against racism and promoting language awareness.
Our EAL learners are exposed to a wide range of English grammar and vocabulary throughout our curriculum. As with all students they are supported to settle into the school and building friendship groups.
